Built in 1128 on top of Capo di Faro (a cape later called San Benigno), the Lighthouse of Genoa has always been a symbol of the city.
In ancient times bonfires were lit on top of the cape to signal the presence of the port to seamen.

The Ducal Palace also known as the Doge’s Palace is located on Piazza Matteotti, also with an entrance on Piazza De Ferrarri. It is the most important cultural centre in Genoa. Its construction dates back to the prosperous period of the Maritime Republic of Genoa.

Every year the palace hosts exhibitions and the most important events in the city. Some of the most important festivals are La storia in Piazza (Festival of history with famous national and international guests) and the International Poetry Festival (the most important poetry festival in Italy).

The Palazzi dei Rolli were noble houses that, during the great period of the Republic of Genoa (between 500 and 600), were considered of high standard in order to host state visits. Some of the buildings were declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 2006. The (Rolli) were proper lists of public housing that divided the residences by category and quality.
