Royal Palace
The Royal Palace is located at number 2 on Via Balbi, the eponymous street linked to the prestigious Genoese aristocratic family.
In 1824 the building was bought by the Savoy and then modified to suit the demands of the royal family whose name still identifies the building. The rooms, are decorated by works from the greatest Genoese artists of the seventeenth century as well as masterpieces by Bassano, Tintoretto, Luca Giordano, Anton Van Dyck, Ferdinand Voet and Guercino.
Since 1922 (the same year the museum opened to the public) the palace is also home to the offices of the Ligurian Superintendence.
