Sestri Levante
Sestri Levante is a resort town in the east Ligurian Riviera and is very popular with Italian and foreign tourists alike. It is about 50 km from Genoa and is easily reached by train, by highway or by road coasting along the sea on the Via Aurelia.
Sestri Levante partly developed on a spit of land jutting out into the sea (peninsula), which gives it two beautiful bays that have earned it the name of the city of the two seas. In fact, if you are in front of the beautiful Baia del Silenzio (the small bay to the east), you will also notice the sea behind you, in the gulf called Baia delle Favole (the big gulf to the west). Each year the city hosts The Andersen Festival and Literary Prize in memory of the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen who lived in Sestri Levante in 1833.
