Busalla

Its real centre is Via Vittorio Veneto, that stands on a part of the Giovi Pass "Strada Regia".
Once this street was flanked by elegant coffee bars and pastry shops whose clients were rich people from Genoa coming here to escape the summer heat and enjoy the fresh air of the Appenine mountain range.
Nowadays Busalla is a modern little town with its historical centre hidden, out of the beaten track especially for drivers; it is full of courtyards, arches and little alleys that tell us about the past centuries small living. All that remains of the old medieval fortifications is the old turret. Around the centre there are several villas; we must remember the beautiful Villa Macciò and Villa Borzino, that stand out among them. The former was built in 1870 and in 1943 the famous writer and comedian Sam Benelli lived there,
as he was persecuted for political reasons, the latter was built in 1912; it boasts a very fine architecture and stands in a park overgrown with very fragrant plants. The Nynphaeum is really fascinating with its polychrome tesseras and coloured pebbles. The Villa is now property of the Town Hall and a number of associations are housed in its over 50 rooms.
