It is not too long that Genoa, situated in front of the homonymous gulf, discovered its inclination as a tourist place. The city has all that is requested to enter with all qualifications in the big international tourist circuits thanks to its rich artistic, historical and cultural patrimony. What firstly started this ascent was the Aquarium that, thanks to its notoriety, made Genoa famous in Italy and abroad. Its realisation is due to the unquestionable genius of the Genoese architect Renzo Piano who finished many other works in the same area such as the renovation of the ex Magazzini del Cotone that are now residence of the very important congress centre that take its name from them. The same building gives hospitality to the Ocean and Navigation Museum, the kids Library Edmondo De Amicis and the innovating ìKids Landî (Citt‡ dei bambini).
The Cineplex, a movie theatre with 7 different picture-theatres was built in the area right behind this big building.
ìLe Veleî, ìIl Bigoî, a panoramic elevator that looks like a derrick of an old cargo ship, ìla Sferaî in which multicolour butterflies and tree-ferns find hospitality, ìil teatro tendaî where various spectacles are played during summer are just a few other works of architect Piano. To make it complete, it is possible to visit the museum of the Italian expedition in Antarctic, Neptune Galleon and Lele Luzzati museum.
The whole historical centre has plenty of stores of all kinds and on Saturday especially its ways are very busy because of shopping. I suggest following our virtual itinerary in order to be able to avoid missing some important historical monuments and palaces of the city. More than cultural and congress tourism, Genoa offers various opportunities to those who love excursions also. An example above all could be the Forti itinerary, which allows making a complete visit of the numerous military places situated on the hills behind the city.
